Most of us have probably heard of aloe vera before or have even used it ourselves. It has some great uses and benefits but there are probably some that you don’t even know yet.

Aloe vera can be used in many different ways and can also be found in many different skin care products, as well as toiletries and cosmetics. Here we take a look at the benefits of aloe vera.

It might be in your moisturizing lotion or your shampoo and conditioner. Or you have aloe gel for sunburns.

You can get aloe vera supplements in the form of capsules and pills or in a gel form or even aloe vera juice. My preferred method is taking capsules and I’ve found these aloe vera softgels work well for me.

Since no food contains aloe vera you actually have to take it in one of the supplement forms.

The gel is probably the most common one of them so far. All the supplements come from the aloe plant itself which is a succulent plant. It might remind you of a cactus plant. Even though they are similar and both grow in hot and dry climates, Aloe plants are considered as their own category. So aloe vera is not a member of the cactus family.

Normally the aloe vera plant provides two different substances, a gel and a latex extract. The gel is a clear and jelly substance that is found in the inner part of the leaf.

The latex comes from under the skin and is yellow or green. But there are also some products made from the whole leaf. In that case the leaf will be crushed.

The leaves are thick, pointed and fleshy and most of the time green in color. Sometimes that might be more of a greyish green or a green with white spots. Each leaf is full of a slimy tissue that stores water and eventually makes up the gel.

The vital benefits to health

Aloe vera was well known in the ancient Egypt as medicine as well as a skin treatment, mostly used for beauty reasons. And we still use them in those two areas today.

Aloe vera is still being used in the pharmaceutical industry as well as the cosmetic and sometimes the food industry. It plays a smaller role in the food industry but it can be used as a natural food flavoring.

The biggest use is probably for skin treatment, especially for sunburns. It can as well be used for other burns, wounds such as cuts, rashes and insect bites and stings.

The aloe vera plant has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties which will help soothe the pain and calm a swelling. That is not just the case for rashes and insect bites or stings but also for muscle and joint pain.

It can really help with burns and wounds because it will speed up the wound healing process by improving the blood circulation through the affected area and by preventing cell death around the wound.

It can also be used as a moisturizer for dry and itchy skin and can be found in skin products that are sun blocs. It is also said to improve your overall skin and even prevent wrinkles in slowing down the aging process of the skin.

So you might as well just include it as a part of your beauty routine, for example as a face mask. Or include aloe vera products into your regular nutritional plan and it will leave you with a regenerated body and an attractive and youthful appearance.

That is because the gel has a lot of different but important vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants that will really benefit your body.

The antioxidants are also important for your health since they can hinder the growth of certain harmful bacteria that can otherwise cause some infections. And it can also neutralize harmful bacteria in your body.

So taking in aloe vera and not just using it as an ointment for your skin, can be detoxifying and cleanse your digestive system and your body. That will lead to better health and a stronger immune system. For these purposes you should rather use the aloe vera juice though.

When taking it like that it can really improve your digestion which will also help with constipation.

So if you are struggling with constipation you could just give the aloe vera juice or even the aloe vera latex a try and see what it can do for you.

You can also use the aloe juice as a mouthwash. In that way it can be effective to reduce dental plaque or help with minor infections and diseases of the gums.

It can also be mixed with other herbs to make a daily mouthwash that will keep your mouth and gums clean and healthy and prevent infections. Or you can make your own conditioner with the aloe gel or juice to promote a healthy hair growth and prevent hair loss or even help with dandruff.

You will benefit most from it when it is used on a regular basis.

It is also said that aloe vera can help lower the blood sugar levels and could therefore be used as a treatment for diabetes.

Now if you think about using it in that way it is always smarter and safer to ask your doctor about it because it can also interfere with other medication that you might be taking. And you don’t want to end up worth or with other side effects.

Just in general it seems like aloe has more benefits when it is used as an ointment for the skin and the gum instead of being taken in as a pill or capsule.

Even though the aloe vera supplements in form of the pills and capsules can have great benefits for different areas, they are best when taken in the right dosage and only for a short period of time.

They might cause more side effects than the gel, especially when taken over a long period of time.

Yet don’t be scared to try them yourself since we just learned that aloe vera has a great variety of uses and can really benefit your body and health.

As it is with all supplements and medication just make your research or ask your doctor for advice.

To end this, there is one more use of aloe vera gel that was currently studied. Apparently it can keep food fresh for a longer time.

There have been some studies where they dipped fruits and vegetables in the aloe vera gel and it helped keep them fresh longer.

So fur sure that might not be something you want to try at home at this point but it might be another great use in the near future. We will see.
